Matt is an Arlington young husband, newborn dad, condo renter, youth sports coach, precinct captain, doting dog-father, former legislative Chief of Staff, and a co-owner of a political consulting firm that prioritizes recruiting and assisting candidates in races far too often left unattended by Party leadership. Last year, he assisted in successfully recruiting candidates in every single Florida state legislative district for the 2020 election cycle. This year, he has taken part in recruiting the lion’s share of Democratic challengers for Republican-held seats in the Virginia House of Delegates — of which more than 40/45 now have challengers.

After completing his undergraduate degree in Political Science and minoring in Criminal Justice, & Religious Studies at VCU in Richmond, Matt’s then-fiancée, now-wife, Jasmine, and he chose Ballston as the place to begin their family — which now includes baby Mandela. Upon moving to Arlington, Matt immediately started coaching flag football and youth basketball teams and has become a frequent volunteer in the community, including on the Board of Arlington Independent Media, Coalition for Empowerment and Opportunity, and the local anti-poverty organization, Arlington Thrive — of which his wife served as a member of the Board of Directors.

During the 2016 election, he worked on helping the formerly incarcerated get their rights to vote restored here in Arlington and around Northern Virginia. In the final four days of the 2017 gubernatorial election alone, Matt knocked over 1,000 doors around Arlington to get out the vote and help elect our Democratic Governor. He is already someone who has traveled the state recruiting candidates, speaking to crowds, organizing, knocking doors, and helping others raise hundreds of thousands to help Democrats win all three statewide offices, the State Senate & the House of Delegates.

Matt is running for this office during these unique times because he's not only already an effective law-maker and team-player, but the kind of visible leader the 47th District deserves.
